A Study in Scarlet

Members of a secret London society begin dying just as their shared fortune is being divided among the survivors. Sherlock Holmes follows the money through a maze of suspicious heirs, hidden motives, and one increasingly endangered young woman.

Although it borrows the title of Arthur Conan Doyle’s first Holmes novel, the movie tells an entirely original story by Robert Florey and Reginald Owen.

Anna May Wong received prominent billing, yet her role occupies fewer than ten minutes of screen time.
